The US Army Band will once again host the American Trombone Workshop. The conference will take place March 8-11 in Fort Myer Virginia. This is always a great event. Some guest artists include:

Highlights from 2016:
The International Trombone Festival kicked off today with a spectacle at Juilliard today. Joe Alessi led a Trombone flash outside of Lincoln Center today. Wagner surely intended this. This was billed as an opportunity to break the Guinness world record for Trombone choir (369 strong). The festival will be combined with Alessi's premiere of Williams Bolcolm's Trombone Concerto on Friday evening. This is but one of the events on the action packed schedule.
The 2016 International Horn Symposium will take place on campus on Ithaca College this year. The event will take place June 13-18 on the Ithaca, NY campus. The conference is packed to the gills with the usual competitions, masterclasses, and performances. Here's a sample of the featured musicians:

There's a number of things we're looking forward to on the docket. For one, don't miss Jeff Nelson's fearless performance. This alone should be "required reading." Also, look for a presentation from James Boldin on solo literature and etudes. Boldin is a great performer, but an even more insightful teacher on this topic. We're also looking forward to Daniel Baldwin's presentation on Music Entrepreneurship. Take a look at the schedule for all the great things we missed.

University of Tennessee School of Music
This year's ITEA conference is coming up May 30 to June 4. This year's conference will be held at the University of Tennessee. Are you thinking of making the trek to Tennessee for this conference? Here's some things to expect.
Look for a number of competitions including solo, mock band, mock orchestra, quartet, and jazz. The semi-finalists are available on the website right now. There's a wide variety of ages will compete. Also, how can you miss Stella by Starlight with rhythm section and Tuba?
If you read the full list of ensembles, it will take a long time. The list is crazy long and that's a good thing. There's everything from collegiate ensembles to the Army Tuba quartet.
The list of presenters is long and distinguished. Beyond that though, the schedule has some great opportunities to learn and grow. This includes everything from Tuba and Jazz, to career paths, to pedagogy and the vocalise.
The problem with the list here is that choices will have to be made. In order to see Gene Pokorny's recital, you will have to miss something else. Choose wisely.

The 2016 International Trumpet Guild Conference is coming up soon. ITG's annual Trumpet pilgrimage will take place in Anaheim, California from May 31 to June 4. The tagline for this year's conference is "ITG celebrates legendary players from the Pacific Rim and beyond."
As usual, the conference will have competitions, exhibitions, masterclasses, and a boatload of performances. There's too many performances and events to list. Well actually, they have a website with a list, so you can read that. We have 5 that we believe are not to be missed and stood out to us.
So many people have heard the playing of Jon Lewis and don't know it. The prolific Hollywood studio artist can be heard playing on a multitude of film scores. Lewis is an amazing studio player, but also an awesome soloist. Tamir Akta should be know by many more than he is. The Israeli trumpeter will be a welcome addition to this program. Don't miss this pairing.
Don't you wish you could have seen a time when Sousa was traveling and people lined up to see concerts with Cornet solos and all the schmaltzy fanfare that came with them? This is a great way to learn about this period.
You need a reason to go to a masterclass with Wayne Bergeron?
John Adler will host the panel featuring Ralph Alessi, Alex Sipiagin, and Herman Mehari. This is a great subject with awesome panelists who will undoubtedly have lots to say.
John Schlabach, host of a previous ITG conference, has lots of great things to say about ear training. Be sure to check this one out.

The Schwob School of music will serve as the host for the 25th anniversary of this competition. University of Alabama-Birmingham Hulsey Center for the Arts
The 2016 Trumpet Festival of the Southeast will be taking place next month in Birmingham. Clinicians include Joe Burgstaller and Sean Jones. The event is taking place January 15-16 and includes masterclasses, concerts, and some other learning opportunities.
